Inés Fernández Ortega and Valentina Rosendo Cantú are Indigenous Me' phaa women who were raped by soldiers in separate incidents in 2002 in the isolated Montaña region of Mexico's Guerrero State. After courageously denouncing these crimes, Inés and Valentina faced insurmountable obstacles when their cases were handed over to military jurisdiction, effectively denying truth and justice. But the women did not give up and despite threats, took their cases to the Inter-American human rights system, a struggle supported by Amnesty International. This video tells the story of Inés and Valentina in their own words, and includes what they testified to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights at hearings in 2010.
